In 1988 Barry moved from Surrey to the West Country to concentrate more fully on his painting. For 16 years he and his wife Pippa ran residential painting holidays from their 15th Century farmhouse near Stogumber. In 2004, not wanting to leave this beautiful part of the world, he moved to Crowcombe in Somerset.
An oil painter for many years he now works mainly in pastel, often on glasspaper, frequently visiting the remote areas of Dartmoor, Exmoor and the Quantocks, which have been the inspiration for much of his work. His love of the countryside is reflected in his rendering of light and mood over a wide range of subject matter.
Barry has exhibited with many London Societies including the RBA, the ROI and Pastel Society. He travels widely in this country and abroad promoting and demonstrating the pastel medium. In the year 2000 he was elected a Fellow of the Royal Society of Arts for his services to pastel.
