Neville is mainly self-taught but has always had a love of painting. He now has time to enjoy it and to develop at his own pace. He works in several types of media including pastel, both soft and oil varieties, and acrylic but mainly oils. In fact chopping and changing the materials used seems to have a positive effect on the result by injecting a liveliness into the work.

The Somerset countryside, in particular coastal and harbour areas are often the stimulus for his paintings, but he has noticed that suitable subjects can be found in less obvious places such as factories or the mud in Watchet harbour.

He likes to go out sketching and for this he uses a selection of materials including watercolour pencils, pen & wash. Alternatively he uses a small pochade box which holds all the necessary materials for an oil sketch. The sketches are either finished in the studio or used as references for a larger work. Some of his work can be seen in Courtyard Gallery, Minehead and Churchgate Gallery, Porlock.
