Lucy Large’s sculptures have their starting point in the natural world – responding both to the immediate environment and to close observation of wildlife photography and illustration.
They also make reference, however, to a sense of story-telling or theatre. By placing objects in a box and containing them within a frame, a scene is set and the viewer is invited to speculate on the narrative presented.
Lucy Large’s two-dimensional work begins life as small sculptures made from wire mesh and found objects. They are placed on water colour paper and recorded using spray paint with the result resembling an x-ray. Each image is staged and recorded in this way and then the sculptures discarded, leaving behind this trace, evoking ideas of memory, absence and dream.

Lucy studied sculpture at Camberwell College of Art in London. She has had recent collections of work shown at the Affordable Art Fairs in London and The Fairfax Gallery in Tunbridge Wells. Her work is also held in several private collections.
