JO LUCKSTED

Jo Lucksted creates quirky and illustrative ceramics that fuse together her eclectic range of influences. A self confessed magpie for beautiful things, Jo is a great admirer of the skill that goes into handmade and historical objects, which is reflected in the mastery of technique and attention to detail in her own work. Having worked in a variety of media, including textiles, printing, silversmithing and photography, Jo has always returned to ceramics, a medium she feels a real kinship with. The huge range of techniques at her disposal, from raw textured stoneware clay to smooth glossy glazes, provide the perfect outlet for her ideas. Jo hand builds her pieces, enjoying the process of sculpting and creating surface texture. She uses underglaze colours to hand paint each piece.

One of the strongest inspirations for Jo’s work is the carvings in the cathedrals, churches and graveyards of her native Somerset. Her sculptures often depict animals, angels and mythological creatures, and have the feel of ancient talismans with an edge of religious kitsch and illustrative style.

Since 2010 Jo has worked full time as an artist from her studio in Shepton Mallet, and has exhibited widely across the UK.
