Yolande Beer was born in Newick, East Sussex in 1957. She studied Three Dimensional Design at Brighton Polytechnic, 1974-79, specialising in ceramics. Her first workshop was set up in Brighton, 1979-84 with assistance from the Crafts Council and South East Arts.

As business increased, sgraffito into press moulds was gradually set aside for brush-decorated ware. Assisted by a Scholarship, Yolande worked in Japan for two and a half years, where she decorated tableware at the Tobo Sugi Company in Tokoname, and later set up a small workshop to prepare for a solo show in Tokyo. Before her return to England, she travelled to Canada for a 6-week Artist in Residency at Ceramics Canada, Calgary.

Since 1989 Yolande has married and lives in Five Ashes, East Sussex where she continues to make one-off figure decorated ceramics and dinner services. Her work is collected and exhibited internationally.
