From childhood, Ken Hildrew has been moved and inspired by wilderness and over some forty years as a professional painter has gained an international reputation for his atmospheric landscapes.
His discovery of the ‘miraculous secrets of hidden Exmoor, its spirit and atmosphere, ever changing through the seasons’ meant also the discovery of his spiritual home.
Since coming to live on the edge of Exmoor eighteen years ago he has sought to capture the ephemeral ‘effects of weather and light on the landscape from early spring through summer and autumn to the harsh winter, each season bringing its own beauty.’
With the continual inspiration on his doorstep – wilderness, luminosity of light and the colours of Sickett, greys, greens, browns and ochres – Ken never tires of ‘chasing the light’, driven as he is to capture the atmosphere of the moor and its myriad moods.
He is a regular exhibitor and prize-winner at shows, and his work has been commissioned and purchased worldwide for private and corporate collections including Shell Oil, Marks & Spencer, Virgin Atlantic, Orient Express Ferry, Hilton Hotels. He is represented in Galleries in the UK, Europe, the Far East and America.
