The Deer Park by Martin Hesp

A modern fairy-tale based on the real-life West Country village of Dunster in England.

A brother and sister find themselves in the huge dark forest which cloaks the hills above their home. As the Christmas holidays arrive it becomes colder and colder and the world is covered in thick snow, so they find themselves having all manner of adventures in the mysterious Deer Forest which belongs to the folk in The Castle where their mother works. There’s a giant and a witch as well as a Hobby Horse and a strange but kindly Tree Spirit which helps them to find their father who has become lost in a distant war.
