Louise Waugh is a painter and printmaker whose career spans several decades, with a deep commitment to capturing the beauty of the world through her work. Having studied etching in Granada, Spain, Waugh’s artistic journey has taken her to diverse places, from the landscapes of West Somerset to the vibrant scenes of Bali, Morocco, Italy, and beyond. Her work, which includes both still lifes and landscapes, has been exhibited extensively across the UK, as well as in Ireland, the USA, and Spain. She has shown her pieces in prestigious venues, including the Royal Academy Summer Exhibition, where she has been accepted five times. Additionally, her art is housed in private collections, including the House of Lords.
A largely self-taught artist, Waugh began exhibiting her work at the age of 20, debuting with a show of large woodcuts and linocuts at the Bristol Arts Centre. Although she initially trained as a teacher in Bath, she chose to pursue a full-time career as an artist, forgoing teaching to focus solely on her creative practice.
Currently working in a rural studio in West Somerset, Waugh continues to find inspiration in the world around her. Her creative process often begins with drawing and sketching on location, whether it’s a quiet countryside walk or the bustling life of a coastal town. Returning to her studio, she combines these direct observations with the dreamlike, imaginative elements that characterize her work.
Along with her own art practice, Louise also organises and tutors art holidays in Spain and Morocco.
