Rachel grew up on a sheep farm on Exmoor. Her work is immersed in the Somerset landscape.
Trained originally as textile designer, Rachel is acutely aware of form and colour. Her delicate style mirrors the fragile forms of the plants and flowers she draws. The forms are often layered and random as the plants exist themselves in nature. Colour is used sparingly and deliberately giving each work a fragility.
“When I saw the wonderful botanical work of Charles Rennie Macintosh and the way in which he only coloured certain parts of the image, it clarified the way in which I had been working and my thought process. What has been left out in my work is as important as that which has been added.”
