Hannah Roberts’ paintings sit somewhere between abstract and figurative, between seeing and remembering, between imagination and experience. She works in an organic, process driven way, allowing each mark she makes to guide her as the painting reveals itself.
“It’s a very direct, intuitive way of working, which requires relinquishing a certain amount of control ( in the same way, often when I draw I prefer using my left hand although I am right-handed; I like the lack of control). This way of working can be quite unsettling but very liberating.”
Colour is an important constant in Hannah’s work, with distinctive vibrant hues used to evoke both the familiar and the exotic. There is a sense of place and recognition but also of discovery and newness.
Hannah has a BA Hons in Fine Art from Cheltenham Art College, and has exhibited in exhibition across the UK, including the National Open Art Competition and The Society of Women Artists at the Mall galleries London.
