The Lore of the Land is a mixed exhibition of some of the most prestigious and exciting contemporary artists in the UK today. It is a collaboration between London artist David Harrison and Churchgate Gallery.

As curator, David has selected artists and invited them to respond to the title ‘The Lore of the Land’. Their Interpretation’s range from folklore, the land, legends and myths to landscapes; urban or bucolic, threatening or seductive.

The exhibition brings together 30 contemporary artists including Peter Doig, one of the most renowned living figurative painters, filmmaker and installation artist, Isaac Julien CBE (who has recently been elected as an Royal Academician), Sacha Craddock and Abigail Lane amongst others. Also included in the show are some of the West Country artists represented by Churchgate Gallery.

Harrison’s own paintings and sculptures, which are also be in the exhibition, draw on a rich vocabulary of myth, history and symbol to present an acutely observed, emphatically contemporary world where the natural and supernatural go hand in hand.

‘The Lore of the Land’ is an exciting and unusual exhibition, bringing work at the cutting edge of contemporary art to Porlock.

Open from Monday April 30th – 30th May, Monday – Saturday 10.30pm – 5.30pm
